Many eons ago (ok last Saturday), the planets aligned, and your Muses were able to communicate via super-duper high-tech magic called Zoom.
We’d been hoping to do this for years, ever since we all came together back in 2016 and started this wee blog, but life has taken us for a spin, and then another rinse and spin. And our video chat kept getting pushed back—until now. When, in the midst of arguably the craziest period in the last four years, we were able to all meet through our computer screens and chat.
And it was well worth the wait.
We laughed (ok, mostly from Meredith’s ridiculous facial expressions and overly excited gesticulations), and talked, and laughed some more. We chatted all things writing, life, jobs, quarantine, writing, publishing, reading, TV, writing again, admired Joyce’s perfect book shelves, and we met Nicole’s ADORABLE dog Dovah, who’s now our official mascot. (She’s motivated mostly by peanut butter, and honestly, so are we.)
We delved deep into our current WIPs, and how we’re hoping to edit and polish them further, or in some cases (*cue frightened face from Meredith*) rewrite them. We talked ideas for new projects and revisiting old manuscripts, whether our plans for the rest of this year might be able to happen, and what we’d like to do for the blog going forward.
It was a simple thing, a video chat, which all of us are relying on now more than ever before, but it was one that spanned three time zones, three continents, and almost the whole globe. It took some planning too, to coordinate the time zones for everyone, but it worked out perfectly, and was an epic meeting of minds and friends who have been in touch via the written word for four years now, but finally got to hear each other’s voices in real time.
In this time of constant fear and uncertainty we’re learning to appreciate the little things, and this Muses meeting was definitely a ray of sunshine.
It looks like big things are in the works for your Muses too, so stay tuned for not only new stories and posts coming your way, but also major news. (*cue excited face/flailing from us and from Dovah*)
We hope you’re all doing well and staying safe, and that the Muse has been kind to you. Here’s to more joyful meetings of friends from around the world, even if it is virtual for now. We’re already planning another multi-time zone video chat, and daydreaming when we can all meet in person someday, hopefully soon.
Lots of love,
