The cherry blossoms are blooming, the daffodils are dilling, and the birds are singing. Spring is here (or coming very soon!), and we’re sharing our favorite songs that conjure up those first few sunny and warm days, when the world seems renewed, and you suddenly have a spring in your step! (Pun very much intended…)
MEREDITH:
Be Love by Satsang and Tubby Love
I stumbled onto this song and fell in love with its upbeat guitar and drums, as well as the laid back vocals that really speak to life getting better despite enormous sadness and difficulty. This song feels like sunshine on a spring morning, when you can venture out without a coat or scarf for the first time in the season(!!), and the hint of summer is buzzing in the air with the bees.
Wired by Ella Eyre and Sonny Fodera
This popped up on a random Spotify playlist and I immediately played it another few times. Certain house songs really get me, and this one made me want to get up and dance, or go on a sunshine-filled roadtrip somewhere (anywhere, honestly, I haven’t left my flat in a year! I’m only a little cabin-feverish, it’s fine….) I love Ella’s voice too, and sought out her other songs. This one definitely puts a spring in my step.
Think (cover) by H.E.R.
I’ve always loved H.E.R.’s voice, and when I saw she did a cover of Aretha Franklin’s legendary “Think”, I’ve never clicked play so fast. It’s been on repeat for me the last week or so, and I can’t help but start dancing when I hear it. I love the drum line percussion driving the beat, and can just picture a massive college marching band doing a whole half-time routine to this (when it’s safe to do so again!). (*NERD ALERT* I was the drum leader of my high school marching band, no shame.) Definitely check out H.E.R.’s other songs, because her voice is just incredible!
JOYCE:
The Melody, by Super Junior
The Hallyu kings have returned for their 15th anniversary with their 10th full-length album! Aside from the jaw-dropping, ground-breaking Burn the Floor (seriously, this performance is on another level — so original and never done before in K-pop), and the funky title track House Party (which is basically your new WHO-approved pandemic anthem), The Melody is a sweet, upbeat track that puts a smile on my face. Super Junior has come so far since 2005 — they’re one of the very few K-pop groups that have survived this long in an industry that is constantly evolving and looking towards the next new thing. I’m just a proud mom at this point with no regrets.
tl;dr Stan SJ for a happier life.
All the Gold, by Alivan Blue
I stumbled upon this pretty song while wandering around Spotify, and they kinda remind me of Of Monsters and Men. So I checked out more of their songs and fell in love with their sound. It makes me feel like I’m driving along the coast on a Saturday morning with the windows down and the wind in my hair.
